When I was a little girl the House Sparrow was a very common bird but over the years its numbers declined dramaticaly in the Netherlands. Between 1980 and 2000 their numbers declined with 50%!
In Amsterdam (where I grew up and still live) these numbers are even worse, 90% of them disappeared!!
Mostly because of a shortage of nesting sites caused by changes in urban building.
Luckily as of the year 2000 numbers have started to stabilize and when the sun is out I can hear them chirp and bickering.
This beautiful giclée art print of my watercolour House Sparrow captures the original perfectly.
