The Great Tit, a very prominent and quite loud passerine. Together with the smaller Blue Tit they form groups in search of food like insects and spiders.
The Great Tit is also notorious for having a large number of songs & calls in its repertoire and they even mimics other birds. Experienced birdwatchers often say that, if you don't know to what birdsong you're listening to, it's probably a Great Tit.
And did you know you can determine the sex of a Great Tit by the broadness and length of the dark stripe on its chest?
Males have a very broad stripe that goes all the way up to their tail. Females have a much thinner stripe that ends on their abdomen. So this one is definitely a dude.
This beautiful giclée art print of my watercolour Great Tit captures the original perfectly.
